Christmas decorating around here is a mix of handmade projects, old favorites, and things I simply love. Our open-concept home blends modern, rustic, and farmhouse style, and I let that same mix carry into the holidays. I’ve never been very good at picking just one thing. 😂
Come on in for a little Christmas home tour! I’m sharing Christmas decor ideas using warm wood, greenery, cozy textures, and some of my favorite DIY pieces. Along the way, I’ll link the projects you can make for your own home. You might already have a few supplies waiting in your scrap wood pile!

Christmas Decor Ideas from Our Living Area
The living area is where I bring out the cozy—soft textures, little touches of greenery, and handmade pieces that feel right at home. Basically, if I love it, I’ll find a place for it!
I let the warm wood tones and everyday favorites guide my Christmas decorating, tucking seasonal touches into the displays I already enjoy. Sometimes a few small changes are all it takes to make the room feel festive.
A Simple Christmas Coffee Table Centerpiece
This arrangement starts with two projects I made: a long wooden box and a set of scrap wood pillar candle holders. This Christmas, the candle holders are getting a little change of scenery, holding miniature trees instead of candles!
That textured tree on the back wall is my DIY spackle art Christmas tree—an easy way to make your own holiday wall decor, no fancy art skills required!

The different heights give the trees a layered look, while the wood box gathers everything into one centerpiece. I tucked in a couple of amber bottles and finished with a wooden chain for a simple mix of wood, glass, and greenery.
I love finding new ways to use projects I already have. That scrap wood keeps earning its keep!

Christmas Fireplace Decor That Feels Like Me
For our fireplace, I mixed faux fur stockings with dried eucalyptus from my garden. Traditional Christmas greenery? Not exactly. But I love the silvery leaves against the rustic stone-and-wood mantel, and using something I grew makes it even sweeter.

The white ceramic deer came home with me after one of those “quick” Costco trips. Apparently, I needed deer along with the groceries. 😉 I paired them with wood and metal candlesticks, white candles, and faux lamb’s ear garland to soften the arrangement.
And yes, that white thing underneath the deer is a speaker. Another Mr. Honey Do compromise! We both live here, and sometimes decorating means finding a way to make the everyday stuff work with the pretty stuff.

The dried eucalyptus hanging beside the faux fur stockings came from my garden. I love bringing a little of what I grow indoors, and those silvery leaves felt right at home with this Christmas display. It doesn’t have to be traditional Christmas greenery to deserve a spot on the mantel.

Decorating an Antique Hutch for Christmas
I gave this antique hutch a chippy milk paint finish years ago, and I still love it today. Behind those glass doors, I can enjoy my little decorative pieces without quite so much dust settling on them. Because I love collecting pretty things. Dusting them? Not so much. 😂
On top of that, I mixed a faux Christmas tree with the DIY wooden Christmas trees I made last year. Their simple basic shapes and natural wood tones fit right in with the pieces I use every day.
The chalkboard adds a little family history, too—it’s an old window from my grandmother’s house. A simple chalk design Christmas tree adds a seasonal touch without requiring another decoration to store.
I used the same technique from my reversible vintage window tutorial to turn this window from my grandmother’s house into a chalkboard. The tutorial includes a chalkboard on one side and a decorative mirror effect on the other. It’s featured in a fall post, but the chalkboard can change with the seasons!

And I couldn’t leave out my tiny twig houses! Those were so much fun to make. Tucked beside the books, they add another handmade touch to this little Christmas corner.

And then there’s the little white ceramic Frenchie with GOLD antlers, perched on a stack of old books. Does a Frenchie need antlers? Absolutely not. Did that stop me? Also no. 😂 He adds a little whimsy among the wood and greenery—and decorating should make you smile!

Christmas Decor Ideas for Our Dining Area
One of our favorite things about this dining area is the view. With windows all around us, we feel connected to nature even while sitting at the table. We love watching the birds between bites and conversation. There’s always something happening outside, and we’ve got some pretty good seats to take it all in.

A Family Table with More Stories to Tell
This gorgeous table (originally red mahogany) belonged to my husband’s grandmother. He spent years gathered around it with her for holiday meals and Sunday dinners, so when he inherited it after her passing, it brought a whole lot of memories along with it.
Its original finish didn’t quite fit our modern farmhouse style, but I wanted this special piece to feel at home with us. After a whitewashed table makeover, it does—and we love how it looks today.
We’re still gathering around her table, adding our own memories to the ones already made there. That makes it the most meaningful piece in this room.

Little Christmas Touches Around the Table
I added mini wreaths to the backs of the farmhouse wooden chairs and draped cotton Christmas throws over the deconstructed wingback chairs at each end.

Those green throws bring in a little pattern and are ready for anyone who gets chilly and wants to linger.

A Christmas Centerpiece with a Story
My DIY decorative riser, made from scrap wood, gathers the centerpiece into a single display and gives those smaller pieces a little lift.
An antique wood cheese box makes an unexpected pedestal for a white Santa under glass. A glass cloche, that is. Santa hasn’t gotten himself into trouble around here. Yet. 😂
Beside him, a mini faux Christmas tree sits in a glass vase I found for $1 and updated with a DIY Pottery Barn-inspired finish. A few little decorative metal trees, wood white snowflakes, and a tiny hand-carved wooden tree finish the arrangement.
An inherited table, an antique cheese box, a thrifted vase, and a scrap wood project might seem like an unlikely Christmas collection. But together, they feel like us. I love looking around our home and seeing pieces with stories attached—and finding new ways to enjoy them every year.

A Little Christmas Decorating on the Antique Pie Safe
Right across from our dining area sits my antique pie safe, which I updated with a primitive furniture finish. I love the distressed black against the warm wood peeking through. It stores our linens and tablecloths, while the top gives me another spot to decorate with the seasons. Useful storage AND room for pretty things? That’s a keeper.

This Christmas, I grouped three no-sew drop-cloth Christmas trees beneath my DIY chicken-wire cloche. Their soft fabric texture paired with the rustic wire feels right at home on this old cabinet. No sewing machine required—just my kind of Christmas crafting!
Beside them, an antique pewter pitcher holds faux lamb’s ear stems. Those soft green hues keep finding their way around our home, and I love how they connect this little display with the living and dining areas.
A few handmade trees, an old pitcher, and greenery are all this spot needs. Sometimes the pieces you already love make the prettiest Christmas display.

Simple Christmas Decor Ideas for the Kitchen
A little greenery, a nostalgic glow, and something made from scrap wood—that’s Christmas in our kitchen. With the living and dining areas open to this space, I carried those same soft greens and warm wood tones right on through.

Mini Olive Wreaths on the Cabinet Doors
Those little olive wreaths on my kitchen cabinet doors? They’re actually candle rings! I couldn’t find mini wreaths I loved, so I gave these a different job. They work beautifully on the cabinets, and they tie in with the backs of our dining room chairs.
Hung with cream fabric trim, they add just enough Christmas without covering up the dishes and vintage pieces I enjoy seeing every day. Here’s how I hang mini wreaths on my cabinets if you’d like to try it.

A Little Christmas Nostalgia on the Countertop
And who doesn’t love an old-fashioned ceramic lighted Christmas tree? I nestled mine into the countertop corner with my usual cutting boards, wooden utensils, and collected kitchen pieces. No major rearranging required.
That little glow is just enough to make the corner feel like Christmas. Sometimes one sweet seasonal piece does the job.

Chunky Scrap Wood Trees for the Kitchen Island
This year, my chunky 2×4 scrap wood Christmas trees landed on the kitchen island. Their simple shapes and wood grain fit right in with the everyday pieces already here, including my little white painted thrift store chickens.
Apparently, even the chickens are spending Christmas in the woods. 😉
I love mixing handmade decorations with things I already own. A few small additions can make the kitchen feel festive while still feeling like our home.

A Cozy Christmas Bedroom with Vintage Charm
Our bedroom, like the rest of our home, is a mix of the things and styles I love. There’s a little modern, a little vintage, and plenty of soft texture to make it feel cozy.
The olive green Christmas bedding carries those same greens from the living areas into our bedroom. Delicate botanical branches across the duvet add a seasonal touch, while green velvet pillows, a cream Christmas tree pillow, and a chunky knit throw make the bed extra inviting. A tall, skinny Christmas tree tucked into the corner adds a little nighttime sparkle without taking over the room.
Those curtains? Drop cloths! I extended them behind the bed to create a soft backdrop and make our centered window appear much larger. I love the relaxed texture against the simple white headboard. And at night, we can watch the moon and the stars right from our bed. If we’re lucky, we just might catch Santa flying past on Christmas Eve. 🎄
At the foot of the bed sits my vintage cedar chest with a modern makeover. The warm wood top, decorative front, and modern legs might make you do a double-take, but I think they work beautifully together.
That’s what I enjoy about decorating our home. Pieces don’t have to come from the same era—or match perfectly—to feel like they belong.

A Christmas Stairway with Simple Greenery and Vintage Charm
The warm wood of our staircase makes such a pretty backdrop for Christmas greenery. I draped evergreen garland along the railing and added aged brass bells for a little old-fashioned charm. Their worn finish fits right in with the collected pieces I love.

Beside the stairs, a 7 ft. Pencil Christmas tree that matches the one in the kitchen and adds a soft glow without taking up much floor space. Pinecones and the white berry picks topper keep it simple, while a large wicker basket at the base adds another layer of natural texture.

My DIY shiplap picture frame holds an olive leaf wreath, repeating the greenery used on our kitchen cabinets and dining chairs. A loosely tied cream velvet bow softens the display. Nothing too fancy—just a little ribbon doing its thing.

Below it, folded quilts in vintage greens and cream rest on a weathered wooden bench I purchased for $10 on Facebook Marketplace “SCORE 🫶🏼 ” accompanied by a few old books and a random giant metal spring. I love how those soft fabrics balance the wood, wicker, and metal in this corner.
It’s a mix of simple Christmas touches and everyday treasures, and that’s what makes it feel like home.
